The
Last Unicorn
The story of 'The Last Unicorn' begins,
"The unicorn lived in a
lilac wood, and she lived all alone. She was very old, though she did not
know it, and she was no longer the careless colour of sea foam, but rather
the colour of snow falling on a moonlit night."
The end of the first chapter reads,
"The two men
slipped hurriedly away, but the tall magician looked back in time to see
the unicorn rise to her feet and stare at the iron bars, her low head
swaying like the head of an old white horse."
Oh no .... what can she do? Just a few pages into this
fantasy and I was captivated. I found myself wanting to help her; to tell
her; to warn her about...............?
Never before have I found myself so totally wrapped up
in a story in such little time. The book is a classic fantasy about the last
unicorn on earth who is searching for the rest of her kind. It's an
unforgettable tale that will make you smile and cry no matter how young or
old you are.
The author, Peter S. Beagle, weaves much description
into every character. I found each word vital, compelling and magical; I
also found that I could not afford to skip a word in case I missed
something!!
'The Last Unicorn' is a masterpiece of writing.
Very poignant and well
deserves the re-release of the
video and
DVD.
