They said I was everything they'd wanted,

Cuddly, lively and cute,

Everything was fine until yesterday -

And then they gave me the 'boot'.

The 'boot' they gave me yesterday,

They said I was no good any more.

They kicked me, hit me, and punched me,

And threw me out of the door.

Out of the door they threw me,

They watched me stretched out on the floor,

I lay there aching and helpless,

Bleeding, unhappy and sore.

Bleeding, unhappy and sore was I,

Visions passed my eyes,

Visions of great happiness

Made tears run down my eyes,

I thought about the past.

Would this be my end?

Was this to be my last?

I have kept this poem for almost thirty years - now I cannot find the name of the author. If anyone can help, please let me know, then I can give credit where it is due.

I still find the words very poignant - I cannot understand cruelty in any shape or form - whether towards animals or people.
