Felix
the Cat was possibly the most popular of silent-era cartoon characters
during the early 1920's. His image could be seen everywhere; from his
own brand of cigars to baby oil! He had a long snout, large pointed ears
and an angular body, making him resemble a dog rather than a cat.
However,
during 1924, a change took place and Felix became more rounded, with a
shorter snout and larger eyes. This is the image most of us recognise
and is the Felix that was popularised in a daily comic strip until 1943
and in a Sunday strip until 1967.
Felix
still makes people laugh to-day being one of the fastest thinking
cartoon characters of all time. He shows individuality and always finds
the answer to any challenge before him.

His
career would make an excellent study for a school project as his image,
being black and white, was used for early electronic broadcasts starting
in 1928.
Collectibles are still available; a
selection is shown below.
