Cats were considered sacred in ancient Egypt. They represented Bastet, the cat-headed goddess of Bubastis, a city in the north-eastern delta of Lower Egypt. Originally linked to the sun god Re, Bastet came to be associated with the life preserving power of the sun, the protection of women, felicity and joy. Our cat is a reproduction of a faience (glazed earthenware) amulet. Cat amulets were commonly worn on necklaces during the 22nd and 23rd dynasties to invoke the blessing of Bastet.

I subsequently left Thailand to travel for two years, and came to the conclusion that what I really wanted to do, was to work with gems. Even then, in the West, people would ask, 'are you going to a party?' because I was always wearing jewelry. I love wearing nice things I always have. "My sister and I have always enjoyed visiting jewelry shops. We would buy what we could afford, and admire the higher price pieces. "Pre-Columbian Collection - This Jewellery, from the south coast of Peru, is based on a detail from an ovoid (egg shaped) vase depicting the Paracas mythological Oculate Being. This creature was a composite image with fox, feline, killer whale, and bird attributes. Paracas potters were more interested in the decoration of the ceramic surfaces than in the sculptural form. Incised lines were often filled with brightly coloured resins in a post-fired application.
